Former NFL Player Takes Aim At Broncos O-Line As Bo Nix Concerns Grow

The Denver Broncos have endured an inconsistent start to the 2026 season, with their offense struggling to find its rhythm. However, their Week 5 victory over the Los Angeles Chargers offered some encouragement after Sean Payton reclaimed play-calling duties from Davis Webb.

Despite the win, concerns remain about Denver's offensive line and its ability to protect Bo Nix. The quarterback has struggled when defenders apply pressure, making the line's performance crucial to the Broncos' hopes of building momentum.

Former NFL linebacker Manti Te'o recently highlighted these issues on Good Morning Football. He pointed out that Denver's offensive line previously excelled at run blocking and protecting its quarterback, but both areas have declined this season.

Te'o also stressed that Nix's numbers under pressure make the problem particularly concerning. He cited the quarterback's struggles with accuracy and his poor touchdown-to-interception ratio when defenders close in.

"The biggest difference this year is they're not running the ball really well and they're not protecting Bo Nix," Te'o said.

The former linebacker wants Denver's offensive line to respond against the Seattle Seahawks. He believes improved run blocking and pass protection are essential if Nix is going to become more consistent.

Payton will also enter his second game back as the primary play-caller, giving Denver another opportunity to build on its recent victory. However, the offensive line must do its part to make that progress sustainable.

Sean Payton Expects Better Protection from the Broncos' O-line

Payton recently identified clean pockets early in games as a key factor in helping Nix settle down. The coach believes better protection can prevent the quarterback from feeling rushed and allow him to execute plays within the offense.

That challenge becomes even more important against Seattle's defense. If Denver cannot establish the run or protect Nix, the quarterback could again struggle under pressure.

The Broncos need a complete offensive performance, not just another win. Improving the line could be the difference between a brief bounce-back and sustained progress.
