J.K. Dobbins entered 2026 determined to finally put his injury history behind him. The Broncos running back has suffered several major injuries throughout his NFL career, including a torn ACL, an Achilles injury, and a Lisfranc injury. After missing the final seven games last season, Dobbins wanted this year to be different.
He even made a bold promise to Denver media during the offseason. Dobbins said he planned to play all 17 games and joked that he would “pinky promise” everyone that injuries would not derail him again. That made the latest development against Jacksonville particularly frustrating.
Dobbins suffered leg cramps during Denver's Week 2 victory over the Jaguars. He carried the ball 10 times for 36 yards before leaving the game, but the Broncos appear to have avoided a serious setback. Reports indicate there is optimism surrounding his condition, with the team expected to monitor him throughout the week.
That is encouraging news for Denver, especially with the Rams waiting in Week 3. J.K. Dobbins' history means even a minor issue will attract attention, but everything currently points toward caution rather than another major injury.
J.K. Dobbins Has Never Been a Fan of Preseason Games
J.K. Dobbins has been particularly cautious during preseason because of his injury history. He previously explained that suffering a major knee injury during a preseason game made him reluctant to play exhibition contests.
That approach was especially noticeable this year. Dobbins skipped Denver's preseason games before returning for the regular season, hoping that preparation would help him stay healthy.
Now, the Broncos will take the same cautious approach with his latest concern. Dobbins remains a key part of Denver's offense, but there is no reason to rush him if his body needs additional recovery.
With Week 3 approaching, Denver will continue watching his condition closely. For Dobbins, the goal remains unchanged: stay healthy and finally make it through a full NFL season.
