Broncos' Bo Nix Opens Up About Recent Injury Amid Major Struggles

Imagn

Bo Nix is facing mounting criticism after an inconsistent start to the 2026 season. The Denver Broncos quarterback has struggled to generate explosive plays, and his disappointing performance against the Seattle Seahawks only intensified the scrutiny. Despite Denver's 17-14 overtime victory, Nix finished with just 107 passing yards.

Many remain puzzled by his regression, but could his injury recovery be contributing to the problem? Nix fractured his right ankle during Denver's playoff victory over Buffalo last January, forcing him to miss the AFC Championship Game. He subsequently underwent surgery in January and another procedure in April to remove bone spurs.

Although Nix previously insisted he felt healthy entering training camp, returning from such an injury can involve more than simply being cleared to play. His rushing production has also dropped considerably, raising questions about whether he has fully regained his previous mobility.

Speaking recently about his recovery, Nix remained confident that he would rediscover his best form.

"I'm not scared. I'm not physically worried... I think all guys when they come back from an injury, it's doing it one day at a time. I'm confident in myself. I know I'm going to get back and be exactly what I was if not better."

Nix's confidence offers encouragement for Denver, although his performances must improve regardless of the underlying reasons. The quarterback believes he can return to his previous level, but the Broncos need that progress to translate onto the field.

Sean Payton Stands Firm Behind Bo Nix as Broncos Starter

Head coach Sean Payton has already dismissed suggestions that he might replace Nix as Denver's starting quarterback. He has also accepted responsibility for the offense's struggles, insisting the blame starts with him and the coaching staff.

That support gives Nix breathing room to work through his difficulties. However, Denver needs greater consistency, better downfield passing, and more production from its quarterback if it hopes to contend in the AFC.
