Linebacker Von Miller recalls a memory involving the Dallas Cowboys and suggests that a future move to the team wouldn’t be so unexpected.

Brandon Loree of the Dallas Cowboys posted a clip of Von Miller on X (formerly Twitter)discussing a memory from his childhood. It included Miller's dad cheering for the Cowboys and ultimately led him to pursue football professionally.

“My earliest memory of football, my dad was screaming in the room. I heard him screaming. And I ran back there, and I'm running, I think something like going on. I'm thinking something's wrong. I never heard my dad make this noise,” Miller recalled.

“And I look, I found him. He [was] watching the television, and he [was] screaming with joy. And I'm looking at the TV. It was a star on the TV. I didn't even know about the field or nothing. I just saw the star. I saw people going crazy. I saw my dad going crazy, and it was just like... [a core memory.]” 

Miller compared the core memory to the Pixar movie Inside Out, where emotions are personified as characters inside the mind. He decided that he would make his father just as happy for his son, that is, himself.

His breakout year came in 2016, when the Denver Broncos placed the exclusive franchise tag on Miller, and he also became the highest-paid defensive player in NFL history.

He recorded 78 total tackles and 13.5 sacks, earning his third consecutive and fifth overall Pro Bowl selection.

The eight-time Pro Bowler played for the Denver Broncos and earned Super Bowl 50 MVP honors. He helped the Los Angeles Rams win Super Bowl LVI. Although Miller still harbored the wish to play for the Dallas Cowboys, he chose the Bills over the Cowboys in 2022, after the latter offered him a five-year contract for $70M.

"I told them I was ready to come to the Cowboys. I would have taken less to go to Dallas because it's Dallas. But I wouldn't take that much less," Miller revealed during an interview with The Athletic.

Injuries slowed him down during his time with the Buffalo Bills, after which he signed with the Washington Commanders in 2025. However, he never made it to the Dallas Cowboys, for whom his father was cheering.

Von Miller Could Join The Dallas Cowboys

On the clip that Brandon Loree posted, Von Miller discussed his core memory of his dad cheering for the Dallas Cowboys, and naturally, the reaction to him not playing for the team was expected.

“You haven't played on the Cowboys yet?” Miller was asked.

“No. Hey, you never know, though. You never know, though,” Miller replied, hinting at a possible union with the Cowboys in the future.

But as of now, when asked about his future in the 2026 season, Miller stated in a recent livestream that he’d love to go back to the Buffalo Bills for a second stint, after posting 9 sacks, 6 tackles for loss, and 15 QB hits in 2025.
