Jo Madden asked Payton what Jonah Coleman had done to earn the Broncos' trust. His answer suggested Denver sees something beyond the usual promise of a rookie:

“I think he's earned all of our trust. He's had a really good camp.”

Payton then highlighted what separates Coleman from a typical first-year player. He pointed to the rookie's build and running style before making an even stronger observation about his maturity.

“And so, Jonah, right from the beginning, you didn't feel a rookie. You felt someone who's 28-29 years old.”

That assessment could have significant implications for Coleman's role.
