Denver Broncos head coach Sean Payton isn't putting quarterbacks Bo Nix and Drew Brees in the same category just yet, but he does see one quality that reminds him of the Hall of Fame quarterback.

During an unscheduled press conference on Thursday, Payton spoke about the honor of presenting Brees at the Pro Football Hall of Fame next month.

"I think that No. 1, they were high-volume college players. (Brees) played a lot of snaps at Purdue. I would say the immediate, just analytical statistical number, would be the accuracy numbers," Payton said on comparison between Brees and Nix, according to Denver Sports.

While discussing his former quarterback, Payton was asked whether there are any similarities between Brees and Denver's young signal-caller.

"From an NFL perspective, he'll go down as the most accurate passer in the history of the league," Payton said, according to Denver Sports. "I think historically speaking, Bo was the most accurate college passer when you look at a lot of numbers."

Drew Brees made a career out of being one of the NFL's most accurate passers, even setting the league's single-season completion record in 2018.

Bo Nix has also been accurate early in his career, completing 64.8 percent of his passes through his first two seasons, according to Denver Sports.

"(It’s) a tough comparison for anybody in their (third) year, but that would just be the beginning. Their personalities are different, of course, but their accuracy and their positioning of the ball is certainly noticed," Payton added.

Rather than comparing careers, Payton focuses on other traits both quarterbacks showed early.

As Nix heads into his third season, the Broncos coach believes his accuracy continues to stand out, even if the rest of his journey is still being written.

While Payton praised Nix's accuracy, he also pointed to another reason he's encouraged heading into Year 3.

Bo Nix's return to full team drills was one of the biggest takeaways from Broncos' first acclimation practice.

After being limited to individual and 7-on-7 work during mandatory minicamp, Nix was back leading Denver's offense in 11-on-11 periods as training camp officially got underway.

"Man, I'm pleased with the shape he's in and the timeline relative to everything we've discussed injury-wise falling into place. It's good to have him back out there in the [11-on-11] team periods," Payton said following practice, according to the Denver Broncos.

Nix enters his third NFL season after helping Denver reach the playoffs in each of his first two years, but Payton isn't putting all the focus on the quarterback taking another leap.

"The 'next step' is kind of cliché. He just finished winning 14 games and having a really good season. Do I think he's going to continue to improve? Yes," Payton added.

Nix threw for 3,931 yards and 25 touchdowns last season while leading the NFL with seven game-winning drives.

Now healthy again, he will begin another season looking to build on that success as Denver starts preparing for 2026.
