Sean Payton has finally addressed Mike Macdonald’s story about their 2024 training camp dispute. Macdonald recently revealed details of the incident, calling the tense back-and-forth a “Cold War.”

The Seahawks had used publicly available Broncos training camp videos to prepare for their matchup. Payton eventually learned about it and contacted Seattle general manager John Schneider, leading to an uncomfortable exchange between the teams.

However, the clip from Macdonald’s interview was reportedly never supposed to become public. Its emergence brought the old controversy back into the spotlight, forcing Payton to address an incident he seemingly considered settled.

Payton made it clear that there is no lingering hostility between him and Macdonald. He also explained that the situation actually helped Denver change its approach to training camp footage.

“Listen, he and I are good. Lord knows I've been in his position where, you know, you're talking about something and the story is three years ago.”

Payton said the Broncos researched what footage fans could access online and subsequently changed their training camp policies. What started as an awkward disagreement therefore ended up influencing how Denver protects its practices.

With the past seemingly settled, Payton can now focus entirely on the Broncos’ current campaign.

Denver enters Week 3 after bouncing back from its Kansas City loss with a 20-13 victory over Jacksonville. The Rams now provide a significantly different challenge, particularly after their dominant win over the Giants.

Payton will need his offense to improve while finding ways to keep Bo Nix comfortable against a Rams defense featuring Aaron Donald. Denver also needs to establish its running game and create more explosive opportunities.

After all the drama surrounding their previous meeting, Payton and Macdonald now have another chapter ahead. This time, however, the attention will be on what happens on the field.
