Denver's splash move for Jaylen Waddle grabbed plenty of attention earlier this offseason, but the AFC landscape shifted again when the New England Patriots landed star wide receiver AJ Brown in a blockbuster trade.

According to Predominantly Orange, the Patriots sent a 2028 first-round pick and a later fifth-round pick in a blockbuster deal to acquire Brown, adding another proven receiving option for 2025 MVP finalist Drake Maye.

Brown now joins a receiver group that includes Romeo Doubs, giving quarterback Maye another major target heading into 2026, and perhaps a chance at the 2026 MVP award.

The move also adds layers to what is shaping up to be a highly competitive AFC race. Denver had strengthened its offense with the addition of Jaylen Waddle, while New England responded with a major addition of its own.

After a breakout season from Maye and a busy offseason on both sides, the Broncos and Patriots have positioned themselves among the season's most talked-about contenders.

Both teams feature young franchise quarterbacks, upgraded offenses, and playoff expectations entering the new season.

With several contenders making moves across the season, the race for AFC supremacy remains wide open, with the Kansas City Chiefs in the conversation. For now, the Broncos have taken major steps to strengthen their offense as preparations for the 2026 season continue.

A Familiar NFL Partnership Finds Its Way Back Together

A.J. Brown reunites with Mike Vrabel, the coach who was on the sideline for the first three seasons of his NFL career in Tennessee.

The Patriots completed the blockbuster trade on Monday, bringing Brown to Foxborough after four seasons with the Eagles. For Vrabel, it marks a chance to work again with a receiver he helped develop into one of the league's top offensive weapons.

Their partnership dates back to 2019, when the Titans selected the Browns in the second round of the NFL Draft. Brown became a key part of Tennessee’s offense before being traded to Philadelphia in 2022.

At the time, Vrabel acknowledged the difficult business side of the NFL.

“Unfortunately, we understand that if we’re going to be here awhile we’re not going to be able to keep every single player that we draft and develop,” said Vrabel on Brown’s departure from Tennessee in 2022.

Four years later, circumstances have changed as Brown arrives in New England as a three-time Pro Bowler, while Vrabel gets a familiar face for the Patriots offense, looking to take another step forward around quarterback Drake Maye.
