Pat Surtain II Reveals His Plans if Broncos Refused To Give Him a Raise

Denver Broncos cornerback Pat Surtain II got a raise. The two mutually agreed to adjust his contract and give him a $5 million raise this year.

While the deal increased his earnings, the cornerback made it clear that a contract dispute was never going to affect his participation during the offseason.

“Nah, (the raise) was something that we talked about. I want to be out there with the team...none of that crossed my mind.” Surtain told Luca Evans of the Denver Post.

Surtain's actions backed up that stance, as he was present at the Broncos' facility when the OTAs began. He will receive another $5 million in 2027 if selected to a Pro Bowl or named an All-Pro in 2026.

Surtain has remained at the core of Denver's squad since 2021. He earned two first-team All-Pro selections, one second-team All-Pro, and four Pro Bowl nods in his five seasons.

Surtain remained focused with the team and never indicated that contract negotiations would affect his relationship with the team.

Surtain Reaffirms Commitment to Broncos After Contract Adjustment

Speaking to Denver Gazette reporter Chris Tomasson during his foundation's charity event at Topgolf, Surtain appreciated how the Broncos handled the situation and emphasized his desire to remain with the team.

“We talked about it a little bit,” Surtain said. “It's a testament to ownership and the Broncos as an organization. We talked about it honestly. You know, I want to be here, I want to be a Bronco. They heavily invested in me as much as I'm invested in them.”

The adjustment places Surtain among the Broncos' highest-paid defensive players. His four-year, $96 million contract now has the chance to surpass the figures of his teammates Zach Allen (four-year, $102m) and Nik Bonitto (four-year, $106 million).

For Denver, rewarding Surtain was a logical move. The 26-year-old remains a crucial part of the secondary and is most impactful on the defense that helped the Broncos return to playoff contention last season.
