Denver beat Seattle 17-14 in overtime to move to 4-2, despite managing only 168 total yards.
Speaking on First Things First, Nick Wright questioned Sean Payton's ability to get the best out of Bo Nix. Wright acknowledged the quarterback's limitations but argued that Denver's offensive struggles cannot be explained by the quarterback's performances alone.
He feels Payton, known for his offensive acumen, must find ways to make the unit more productive:
“I think Sean Payton's job, what his calling card is, is getting the most out of his quarterback and his offense, and he just flatly told the world. That the reason the offense wasn't working was a coaching problem.”
Wright also pointed out that quarterbacks with greater limitations have led more functional offenses in the past:
“And while I am not, you know, a Bo Nix believer. There have been far, far worse quarterbacks. With far, far more functional offenses.”
Payton must now find a way to improve Denver's offense and get more consistent performances from Nix.
The quarterback's mobility remains a concern following ankle injury
Bo Nix's ankle injury in the playoffs may have reduced one of his biggest assets: his ability to threaten defenses with his legs.
On the same show, Nick Wright argued that Nix was not a dynamic offensive threat without that running ability. Wright's assessment raises another challenge for Sean Payton, who must make the offense more productive while the QB1 plays without the same mobility.
Payton must find ways to maximize Nix's effectiveness even if the quarterback cannot rely on his mobility as he once did. He must also find solutions to make Denver's offense more productive and consistent across the board.
