According to analysts, the Denver Broncos have one of the most complete rosters going into the 2026 season. However, while the optimism is high in the Broncos dressing room, Marvin Mims Jr.'s contract extension has become a major talking point

As per the Roundtable, Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk recently reported that Mims isn't quite sure whether this will be his final season under coach Sean Payton, even though he was a part of Payton's first draft class.

“I think I’ve proved it time and time again, just in different stretches, different opportunities,” Mims said as per Roundtable. “I feel as if the coaching staff knows what they’re going to get from me. I love making plays. I love being out there doing the things that I can do. It’s just whatever the team needs from me.”

According to Alper of the Roundtable, Mims admitted an extension would “be sweet,” but he also told Zac Stevens of DNVR Sports that he understands “you can’t keep everybody,” given the business side of the NFL.

Last season, Mims finished the regular season with 37 receptions on 51 targets for 322 yards and one touchdown. He also added 12 carries for 78 rushing yards across 15 games.

He entered the season with high expectations but failed to perform at an elite enough level for the Broncos to offer him an extension right away.

In 2024, Mims caught 39 passes for 503 yards and six touchdowns, a far more productive season given the similar reception numbers.

That’s not all. The Broncos traded for Jaylen Waddle this offseason and signed Courtland Sutton to a long-term extension. Given those major investments, another big-money deal may not be on the cards for Denver, according to Alper.

While Marvin understands his position, he expressed that he could go to any team that wants him.

Even though Mims expressed that he would love to sign an extension with the Broncos, he isn't ruling out the possibility of playing for another team.

He also understands that the Broncos “can't keep everybody,” especially after adding a number of wide receivers to their roster.

“Really, it’s just whatever the team needs from me,” Mims said, via Stevens as per Pro Football Rumours on June 23. “Sometimes I’m not in the most fortunate situations. Sometimes I am a little irritated with my situation. But at the end of the day, I’m blessed to be where I am. With this possibly being my last year (in Denver), I’m just going to enjoy it to the fullest.”

While the regular season never brought him much limelight, Mims showed what he was capable of in the playoffs.

He hauled in eight receptions for 93 yards and a touchdown against the Buffalo Bills, then added a 52-yard catch in the AFC Championship Game.

Despite his playoff heroics, the Broncos didn’t expand his role and, rather, traded first, third, and fourth-round picks for Jaylen Waddle, leaving Mims lower down the pecking order.

And, now that his future with the Broncos remains in the shadows, he is ok with every opportunity he gets.
