The Denver Broncos need their ground game to find consistency after a difficult start to the season.
Their upcoming matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers presents another opportunity to improve on the 2-2 start they've had this season.
Broncos' running back J.K. Dobbins has faced questions about his health amid Denver's offensive struggles. Speaking to reporters after Thursday's practice, the 27-year-old addressed those concerns and said he was healthy. He also explained his expectations whenever he takes the field:
“Yeah, I'm healthy. I'm healthy. I mean, I'm out there playing. Any time — whether it's fully healthy, not healthy, 75, 60, 80, 90, 100 — if I'm out there, I've gotta play good, you know what I mean?”
The veteran back made it clear that his focus remains on delivering whenever he plays. He believes he can make an impact regardless of his physical condition:
“So, if I'm 60 percent, 70 percent, 80 percent, 90 [percent]— doesn't matter, I've gotta make my plays; I've gotta be me, you know?”
Broncos running back outlines the standard he holds himself to
J.K. Dobbins' comments underline the personal standard he expects to maintain on the field. He believes taking the field means accepting responsibility for his performance.
The running back did not suggest that he was currently playing at a reduced level of health. Instead, he stressed that his job remained the same regardless of the circumstances.
Denver will need its rushing attack to produce more consistently as the season progresses. Dobbins' ability to deliver on his own expectations could prove important as the Broncos prepare to face the Chargers.
