Former NFL HC Defends Bo Nix Amid Broncos QB's Struggles

Bo Nix continues to face questions about his inconsistent performances for the Denver Broncos. Despite a 4-2 start, the offense has struggled to generate explosive plays, putting additional pressure on a defense that has repeatedly rescued the team.

Following the Seahawks victory, former Buffalo Bills head coach Sean McDermott offered a more sympathetic explanation during an appearance on The Rich Eisen Show. He suggested Nix's indecisiveness could partly stem from switching between two different play-callers.

"What I'm seeing a little bit this year, to their point, is some of the maybe indecisiveness. And listen, he's kind of volleyed back and forth between two different play callers now. So maybe that's it, right? You just never know. He's got game. He's got the skills."

McDermott acknowledged Nix's struggles but stopped short of writing him off. His comments suggest the quarterback's difficulties could be temporary, especially as he adjusts to Sean Payton taking back offensive play-calling duties from Davis Webb.

Sean Payton Wants Bo Nix to Play More Freely

Payton has encouraged Nix to trust his instincts and play more aggressively. Before the Seahawks game, the Broncos coach delivered a simple message to his quarterback: "Let it rip."

However, Nix's performance against Seattle showed that translating that advice into results remains a challenge. Denver needs him to push the ball downfield, make quicker decisions, and give its playmakers more opportunities.

McDermott's assessment offers hope that Nix can rediscover his confidence. With Denver winning games despite its offensive limitations, a quarterback rebound could make the Broncos considerably more dangerous.
