Calling a player 'overrated' is obviously subjective. However, there are times when a player's popularity depends on criteria beyond their on-field skills, be it their personality, analysts' opinions, or even just where they're from.

Such players are hyped up more than what they are deemed to be worth. The NFL, too, falls in a similar category of players. So let's take a dive and find out which players many in the NFL community consider overrated.

5. Jordan Love (Green Bay Packers)

Jordan Love has been the Green Bay Packers' starter for three seasons now.

Love generates hype because of his undaunted style of play. Even ESPN analyst Dan Orlovsky noted his “floor has been elevated," showing the rapid growth he was making.

While Jordan Love undeniably possesses the physical tools teams look for in a franchise quarterback, NFL Spin Zone notes that there is also a growing feeling that his development may have plateaued.

This is why fans disagree with his reputation as Aaron Rodgers’ successor. They believe he increased expectations. But Love did not deliver as was predicted.

4. Jayden Daniels, (Washington Commanders)

Jayden Daniels had a Rookie of the Year season and playoff success in 2024. Since then, his performance has shown signs of inconsistency and accuracy issues.

Drafted at no 2 overall in 2024, Daniels comes in with a lot of expectations. He was also named the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year.

Last year, Daniels only featured in seven games and had a 60.6% completion rate for just 1,262 yards, with eight touchdowns.

His 2025 season was injury-ridden. Critics feel that Daniels excels in dual-threat situations. Though when he has to operate in high-pressure situations, it's where he struggles badly.

3. Josh Allen (Buffalo Bills)

Josh Allen's name being called overrated might surprise many. Yet he finds himself on this list. Allen's hype comes from the fact that he took Buffalo into perennial contention. In his career, Allen has thrown 30,102 career passing yards, 220 TDs, with a 94.4 passer rating.

Back in 2024, Allen was voted overrated by the players themselves in ESPN's anonymous survey. One particular thing that goes against Allen is his turnovers.

He has shown a propensity to turn the ball over to the opposition team more than 100 times, which is a concern. Despite owning an 8-7 record in the playoffs, the Super Bowl has still been elusive. Buffalo has suffered seven postseason exits since 2019.

2. Jalen Hurts (Philadelphia Eagles)

The hype around Hurts is understandable. He has established himself as a dual-threat quarterback. He has time and again impressed with his elite passing numbers and is a dangerous runner. Hurts led the Eagles to Super Bowl LIX victory in 2024, earning Super Bowl MVP honors.

In his six years in the NFL, Hurts has yet to reach the 3,000 passing-yard mark. To make things even more interesting, he's only crossed the 20-touchdown mark thrice, raising questions over his elite status.

1. Justin Herbert (Los Angeles Chargers)

Justin Herbert has had his fair share of struggles in his career. He is 0-3 in the playoffs with a 64.7 passer rating. Herbert's inconsistency in the clutch has cost them important games. Yet that doesn't take away his stardom. Herbert has consistently ranked among the NFL’s passing leaders since his 2020 rookie season.

He set records for rookie passing TDs and has multiple 4,000‑yard seasons. His teammates also benefited from the energy brought in.

Still, the consensus was he hadn't reached his ceiling. Analysts also talked about his repeated failures in late-game situations. So there has been some skepticism about him.

Putting everything into perspective, it does seem some quarterbacks have to prove their detractors wrong this season. And what better way to do it than by winning the Super Bowl in the upcoming season?
