Wide Receiver Marvin Mims Jr. enters the final year of his rookie contract, uncertain whether the Denver Broncos will extend him. The Denver Broncos have built one of the most promising rosters in the NFL, but not every rising star is guaranteed a long-term future. 

The second-round pick's on-field production will decide his extension from the Broncos. With Denver investing heavily in its roster, Mims acknowledged the difficult decision that the front office has to make.

"As a draft class, and the draft classes after us have performed really well," said Mims to the media, as published by Travis Wakeman of The Sporting News. "That's how you know you have really good scouts and a really good front office, so we'll see what happens, who they want to retain, who they want to keep, but at the end of the day, I mean, us as players, the fans, you guys know they can't really keep everybody."

Denver has an impressive young core while also committing money to veterans. Instead of expressing frustration, Mims appreciated the front office for recognizing talent and accepting that not every deserving player can stay with the franchise long term, as per Sporting News.

Mims has earned multiple Pro Bowl and All-Pro honors as a return specialist. His playmaking ability as a receiver adds depth to Denver's offense.

Moreover, head coach Sean Payton has backed Mims publicly, urging the offense to get him the ball instead of letting doubt creep in.

How Denver's WR Investment Reshapes Mims' Role

WR Jaylen Waddle's arrival further threatens Mims' roster spot. Denver is ready to reshape its receiving corps as it spends a first and third-round pick to get Waddle. This leaves Mims with a make-or-break season in the final year of his rookie deal.

“Really, it’s just whatever the team needs from me,” Mims said, via Sam Robinson from Pro Football Rumours on June 23. “Sometimes I’m not in the most fortunate situations. Sometimes I am a little irritated with my situation. But at the end of the day, I’m blessed to be where I am. With this possibly being my last year (in Denver), I’m just going to enjoy it to the fullest.”

Even after proving himself as an explosive returner, Mims could see fewer offensive opportunities with Waddle expected to become one of Bo Nix's primary targets.

And he is okay with any opportunity he might get.
