The Denver Broncos built one of the league's toughest defenses last season. Therefore, the franchise is being pressed not to break up the chemistry that helped fuel its turnaround in the past three seasons.

With impactful defensive players approaching contract decisions, analysts believe Denver must avoid unnecessary holes on defense. During an appearance on 'Locked on Broncos' podcast, NFL insider Sayre Bedinger shared his take on the situation.

"With all the guys who are on expiring deals or last year of their contracts with the Denver Broncos here in 2026. Maybe a wait-and-see approach as Broncos get into OTAs." Bedinger said. "Cody (Barton) has dealt with some injuries. So that might be part of the reason why they're not necessarily getting to the negotiating table right away."

After years of consistency, Denver finally looked like a balanced contender on defense. However, the safety duo of Brandon Jones and Talanoa Hufanga would be seen for the last time on the field.

Jones is entering the final year on his contract and Hufanga also has two years left on his deal. Both share good chemistry on the field and accounted for 185 combined tackles last year.

OTAs would provide the coaching staff and front office a chance to allot roles before beginning extension negotiations. The Broncos' patient approach also aligns with how many NFL franchises operate during the offseason nowadays.

Denver seems intent on getting players that could shape the roster for years. At the same time, retaining defensive continuity remains a priority for the front office.

Balancing financial caution with roster stability will become one of the franchise's biggest challenges heading into the 2026 season.

Broncos Facing Big Financial Commitment in Key September Stretch

The Denver Broncos are getting ready for an expensive three-day stretch later this year, with nearly $37 million in option bonus payments scheduled for core players.

According to Heavy, Denver is set to pay $36.96 million between September 8 and September 10 to wide receiver Courtland Sutton, center Luke Wattenberg, and defensive lineman Zach Allen.

Sutton is set to receive $12 million after back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons. Meanwwhile, Wattenberg's contract highlights the Broncos' creative salary cap management.

Allen is scheduled for the largest payout at over $15 million after his rise as one of Denver's defensive anchors.

With the franchise pushing toward playoff contention, these financial decisions shape Denver's roster stability for years to come.
