The Denver Broncos escaped with a 17-14 overtime victory against the Seattle Seahawks, but Bo Nix did little to inspire confidence. The quarterback completed 17 of 27 passes for just 107 yards, finishing without a passing touchdown or interception. Denver managed only 168 total yards, relying on its defense and Wil Lutz's game-winning field goal to secure the win.
While the result improved Denver's record to 4-2, Nix's performance raised further questions about the offense. The Broncos struggled to sustain drives after scoring two second-quarter touchdowns, managing just 30 yards of offense in the second half. For a team with ambitions of competing for a Super Bowl, that simply isn't good enough.
Former Broncos tight end Shannon Sharpe has grown tired of waiting for Nix to take the next step. Speaking on Nightcap, Sharpe questioned the quarterback's development under head coach Sean Payton, who personally selected him.
"The problem is that Sean Payton hand-picked him. So this is what he got. And you would like to see maturation, you would like to see a progression. I don't see a progression. I don't. I don't see progression in Bo Nix. I see regression."
Sharpe's criticism reflects the growing frustration surrounding Denver's quarterback situation. Nix has shown flashes of promise, but performances like this make it difficult to trust his development. He must improve his decision-making and consistency before the Broncos' defensive brilliance stops covering up the offense's shortcomings.
Sean Payton Knows the Broncos Offense Must Improve
Payton has already acknowledged that Denver has plenty of work to do despite the victory. The coach recognised that close games can easily swing the other way, leaving little room for complacency.
Nix and the offense now need to respond with a more convincing performance. Denver's defense can win games, but it cannot be expected to rescue the team every week. If the Broncos want to challenge the league's best, their quarterback must give them more.
