The Colorado Buffaloes’ dramatic Week 1 win over Georgia Tech did little to change Broncos legend Mark Schlereth’s cautious view of head coach Deion Sanders.

That prompted a fan to question Schlereth's take. He wondered why someone who considers Sanders a friend would continue focusing on the negatives surrounding his project rather than offering more support.

The criticism did not sit well with the three-time Super Bowl champion, who quickly responded on social media.

"How soft are you? I have praised Prime since he got to CU Boulder. Still have to win. This year and Thursday night was a great start, even though it wasn't a great game," Schlereth wrote.

His message made his position clear. While Schlereth has praised Sanders previously, he believes Colorado ultimately has to prove itself on the field after going 3-9 last season.

The team’s progress is set to be measured by what happens on the field rather than preseason projections.
