Denver Broncos wide receiver Marvin Mims Jr. is entering the final year of his four-year rookie deal, which was worth just over $6 million. Despite his limited role on offense, Mims has continued to make an impact as one of the NFL's top return specialists.

According to the Denver Post's Luca Evans, Denver could face an expensive extension deal if Mims puts together another strong season.

“The league-wide open market for wide receivers is skyrocketing,” Evans wrote on June 26.

According to Heavy, Evans noted that Mims' value could continue to climb, especially if he sees a larger role in Denver's offense this season.

According to Evans' report on The Denver Post, Seattle's recent extension with Rashid Shaheed has become a potential benchmark for players who bring both receiving upside and elite return ability.

“Several NFL agents who spoke to The Post for background on the league-wide demand for receivers pinpointed Mims’ current value, indeed, upwards of $10 million per year on the open market,” Evans reported.

Evans pointed out that NFL agents predicted that Mims is expected to improve even further with his current quarterback and team. So, for now, the focus remains on the 2026 season.

If Mims can prove to be a valuable asset this season, the Broncos may have to match Seattle's deal to retain him.

While outside projections continue to grow, Mims has taken a realistic approach to his future in Denver.

Mims is one of the several members of the Broncos' 2023 draft class who could be looking for a new deal soon. With the team adding talent across the roster in recent years, difficult decisions may be approaching.

According to Sporting News, Mims acknowledged while speaking with reporters recently that contract talks are part of the business side of the NFL.

“Yeah, that'd be sweet, I think it would be a huge peace of mind for me. It's kind of getting to the point where it's like, can't keep everybody, ya know?” Mims said June 23. “We'll see what happens, who they want to retain, who they want to keep, but at the end of the day… they can't really keep everybody.”

The two-time Pro Bowler has become one of Denver's most valuable special teams players while also contributing as a deep threat on offense.

“If this is my last year, I'm looking forward to it with these guys because I've had a great time here in Denver the past three years,” Mims said.

For now, Mims remains focused on the season ahead. But his comments offered a candid look at the situation many young players face as they approach free agency.
