Broncos Draft Jonah Coleman to Aid Bo Nix Amid Offensive Issues

Apr 25, 2026, 10:42 PM CUT

The Denver Broncos have drafted running back Jonah Coleman to help their quarterback, Bo Nix, out this upcoming season, and improve the running game.

On Saturday, the Broncos selected Coleman with their 108th overall pick in the fourth round of the NFL Draft, after which the player revealed that he had always known he was destined to join the team.

“I always knew I was meant to be a Denver Bronco. It worked out how it was supposed to,” Coleman said Saturday. “When I woke up this morning and looked at the pick order, and saw they were where they were, there was no question and no doubt in my mind I was going to be a Denver Bronco.”

During his junior year in Washington, Coleman recorded 23 receptions, 1,053 rushing yards, 177 receiving yards, and 10 TDs, proving it to be his breakout year.

In 2025, his progress was halted by a knee injury, still leading him to finish the season with 758 rush yards and 15 TDs.

He was also a finalist for the 2025 Paul Hornung Award as the nation’s most versatile player, and now he is set to return to continue proving his potential with the Broncos.

“I'm excited to be part of Broncos Country and do whatever I can to go win games and take things day by day and ultimately just be the best teammate ever,” Coleman said about the pick.

This means that Coleman could also aid QB Bo Nix, who sustained a season-ending right ankle fracture during the 2026 divisional-round playoff win against the Buffalo Bills.

Coming off the ankle injury, Bo Nix's third-most rushing yards like last year's aren't guaranteed, and that's where Coleman comes in.

As per a recent update by Broncos legend Peyton Manning, Nix was recovering well when Manning last saw him at the Masters.

However, adding Coleman would exactly be what the QB might need on the field for the rushes.

How would Jonah Coleman contribute to the RB room?

The Denver Broncos have J.K. Dobbins, RJ Harvey, and others in their running back room.

Dobbins suffered a season-ending Lisfranc foot injury in November 2025 due to a “hip-drop” tackle, following which he missed seven games in the season.

RJ Harvey was selected in the second round of the 2025 NFL Draft after earning first-team All-Big 12 honors in 2024.

With two rushers coming off injuries, Coleman discussed how he could contribute to the team after joining.

“Just playing my role and doing what I do. The leadership that I bring to the locker room, the culture, how I can ultimately add to that culture that they have. … Just coming in and being able to be with guys like RJ Harvey, J.K. Dobbins, and stuff like that,” Coleman further said.

“Ultimately, have a three-headed monster in the run game. I believe that's where it starts: in the trenches.”

Going into the 2026 season, it will be interesting to see how the Denver Broncos use this prospect. So far, Bo Nix's two seasons have brought back post-season football to Denver, and the fans will be hoping for more going forward.
