Bo Nix and the Denver Broncos entered the 2026 season with enormous expectations after coming close to the Super Bowl last year. Unfortunately, their opener quickly turned into a frustrating night as the Kansas City Chiefs secured a convincing 31-10 victory.

Nix struggled to get Denver’s offense into rhythm throughout the game. The Broncos also hurt themselves with penalties and missed opportunities, making it difficult to build sustained momentum against Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs.

Despite the result, Nix refuses to view the loss as a reason to panic. The Broncos quarterback believes the game remained within reach for stretches, but Denver repeatedly made mistakes that pushed them backward.

“So it was reachable and you know, we were in it for a while. We just didn't help ourselves by any means and you watch the film and there's a couple good things and then we're all of a sudden back, you know, because of a penalty or something and you just can't win this league like that.”

Nix knows Denver cannot repeat those mistakes. The Broncos had positive moments, but penalties and poor execution repeatedly erased their progress.

Still, the quarterback sees plenty of reasons for optimism. Denver does not need to rebuild its offense from scratch, but it does need to play significantly better.

Bo Nix and the Broncos Have Little Time to Fix Their Offense

The Broncos now have an immediate opportunity to respond against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 2. Nix, Sean Payton, Davis Webb and the rest of the offense must quickly fix the problems that surfaced against Kansas City.

The loss also highlighted the importance of developing Nix’s connection with Jaylen Waddle. Waddle finished his Denver debut with just one reception for two yards, leaving plenty of room for the offense to improve.

Nix remains confident that Denver can turn things around. The quarterback believes the Broncos remain in a good position and simply need to execute at a higher level.

The message is simple: the Broncos need improvement, not panic. Week 2 gives Nix and Denver the chance to show they can respond immediately.
