Bo Nix labelled “overrated” quarterback in latest CBS rankings

Despite leading the Denver Broncos to the AFC Championship in 2025, quarterback Bo Nix is facing fresh criticism. CBS Sports recently labeled the young passer as one of the league’s most overrated quarterbacks, sparking debate about his true ability.

Over Bo Nix's first two seasons, he has completed 64.8 percent of his passes for 7,706 yards, 54 touchdowns and 23 interceptions. Still, CBS Sports writer Garrett Podell included Nix on his list of the league's most overrated quarterbacks.

"Bo Nix is an incredibly unique quarterback. He led the NFL with 612 passing attempts in 2025, but he failed to crack 4,000 yards passing, thanks to an average of 6.4 yards per attempt that ranked 28th among 33 qualified quarterbacks," Podell wrote on July 21.

He's also added nearly 800 rushing yards and nine touchdowns on the ground. Nix's season came to an early end after an ankle injury forced him to miss the AFC Championship Game. He later underwent surgery but is expected to return for 2026.

"He benefits from a strong offensive line and a strong defense. Add in the ankle injury, and it will be interesting to see what happens next in his career," Podell wrote on CBS Sports on July 21.

The Broncos have also made changes around him. Courtland Sutton remained the team's top receiver last season, but Denver has now added Jaylen Waddle to the offense.

With another proven target joining the group, Nix will have a chance to show what he can do in his third NFL season.

The latest CBS ranking added another layer to the discussion.

Is this the harshest Bo Nix ranking yet?

Denver Broncos quarterback Bo Nix continues to draw mixed opinions as he heads into his third NFL season.

After Pro Football Focus, as published by the Broncos Wire, ranked him 19th among the league's projected starting quarterbacks for his second starting year, and following debate over his placement above Lamar Jackson in the NFL Top 100, Nix is now facing fresh criticism from CBS Sports.

"The young quarterback's lumps directly led to Denver struggling to consistently drive the football down the field," Podell wrote in the same article. "Three of the top four teams with the most punts in the 2025 regular season — the Browns (93), Titans (78) and Raiders (74) — are among the league leaders. The fourth team in that group is Nix's Broncos, with 75 punts."

He has also shown a knack for delivering late in games, leading 10 game-winning drives across his first two NFL seasons.

With another season ahead and expectations continuing to rise, Nix will have another opportunity to answer the questions surrounding his game on the field.
