Things have suddenly taken a dramatic turn for Bo Nix. After ungergoing a second prodecure on his broken ankle sustained during the Divisional Round against the Buffalo Bills, the Denver Broncos' quarterback has sparked fresh concerns regarding his recovery.

During an episode of the 104. 3 The Fan's 'The Drive', host Zach Bye gave a very direct and concerning take on Nix's situation. Bye delivered the verdict during his conversation with former Broncos' running back, Phillip Ramsey, on April 29.

“Given the option… do I think we’re out of the woods with this or will there be more stuff? I’d say there will be more stuff,” Bye said, raising doubts about Bo Nix's recovery.

The worry regarding his recovery isn’t without any reason. Nix was far from being replaceable during Denver’s 2025 playoff run, defeating the Bills 33-30 in overtime.

He also had an impressive regular season, leading the team to a 14-3 record and attained a first-round bye.

On the other hand, backup quarterback Jarrett Stidham was unable to have the same level of impact in the AFC Championship game. The game was a testament to Nix's importance in the Broncos' system.

Despite the concerns, Broncos' head coach Sean Payton has pointed out that they're 'excited' about his progress and claimed there was 'nothing to report.'

Nix's recovery has postponed the plans for Broncos' Organized Team Activities (OTAs) scheduled in May. According to a Denver Sports' report, Payton has rescheduled the OTAs in June.

“Guys will be working on Monday [May 4] and then probably more of a team meeting next week,” Payton said. "Probably in the prior two years, we would have been out on the field and you guys would have been out there with us in May. It’s kicked back a little, so that will take place in June.”

With Stidham currently handling QB1 reps, it is also being discussed that Nix may lose the developmental advantage he gained in 2025 if he doesn't resume his on-field duties.

Doctor Believes Bo Nix is on Track for his 2026 Return

According to a report from KKTV, the timeline for Bo Nix's return seems optimistic and 'on track' for training camp.

Orthopaedic surgeon Dr. Aditya Yerrapragada stated that a follow-up 'clean-up' operation is routine for athletes who are healing from fractures.

Fortunately, no indication of complications was found in the prodecure. The surgery was mainly done to ensure proper cartilage alignment and to avoid long-term issues.

Nix is anticipated to be prepared for OTAs, preseason, and the regular season despite the injury. However, the Broncos may take a cautious approach with his workload entering the 2026 season.
