“A little irritated with my situation”: Marvin Mims gets brutally honest after the Broncos acquire Jaylen Waddle

Wide receiver Marvin Mims Jr. did not hide his feelings as the Denver Broncos continue reshaping their offense, strengthening their receiving corps by acquiring Jaylen Waddle from the Miami Dolphins.

Adding another explosive weapon gives head coach Sean Payton relief. But it complicates Mims' situation, as competition for snaps increases. Speaking with reporters, he addressed his situation, shared by DNVR's Zac Stevens via X.

"Really, it's just whatever the team needs from me.” Mims said on Tuesday. “Sometimes I'm not in the most fortunate situations. Sometimes I am a little irritated with my situation. But at the end of the day, I'm blessed to be where I am. With this possibly being my last year, I'm just going to enjoy it to the fullest."

For Mims, the timing is limited. He enters the final year of his four-year, $6.06M rookie contract, which he signed in 2023. A reduced role could affect both his production and his value if he hits free agency in 2027.

Mims has shown his ability to make an impact when given chances. Since entering as a rookie, he has made big plays and earned recognition as an All-Pro return specialist.

During the 2024 season, Mims recorded six touchdowns and 503 receiving yards. In the last season, he played 32%of Denver's offensive snaps.

Waddle's entrance gives the Broncos another proven playmaker with five years of experience. And with him now joining a competitive receiver group, getting opportunities may become even more difficult for Mims.

While the Broncos' 2023 second-round pick faces uncertainty about his role, quarterback Bo Nix believes Waddle can bring a new dimension to the team’s offense.

Bo Nix sees Waddle as a difference-maker amid Mims's uncertain role

Denver's star quarterback, Bo Nix, believes Waddle can bring a new element to an offense that has lacked consistency at times last season. His arrival could influence everything from the passing game to how defenses line up against the run.

"You just can't replace speed," Nix said last week. "That's just what he brings to the table."

According to The Athletic's Nick Kosmider, Waddle's production and speed could force defenses to play farther from the line of scrimmage. That adjustment may create cleaner running lanes and help Denver avoid difficult down-and-distance situations.

"He's just going to add an element of relief for everybody else,” Nix added. “A guy like that makes everybody on the offense better."

Waddle recorded a receiving success rate of 57.2%  in his five seasons with the Dolphins and finished his last season with an 84 PFF grade, ranking 12th among 81 WRs.

The Broncos faced eight or more defenders in the box on 46.1%of rushing attempts last season. Denver hopes Waddle's presence changes that equation and opens up more space across the offense.

Do you think the offense will be dominant with Mims's uncertain status with the team? Let us know!
